#1059, "Unable to capture: Error: No DV"

Hi

I'm trying to capture from a JVC camcorder on a Debian unstable system using a stock 2.6.26 kernel. I get the following:

/data/av# dvgrab stuff-
Found AV/C device with GUID 0x00808805038cbcfa
"" 0.00 MiB 0 frames
Capture Stopped
Error: no DV

ANy idea where I might start digging to sort this out? The avc stuff seems to work because I can control the camcorder with dvgrab -i

Any help appreciated,

Felix.

Is it a miniDV, HDV, or other MPEG-2 camcorder? If HDV or MPEG-2 you have to specify "-f hdv"
If it is miniDV, then it should have worked and most likely you have a problem at the FireWire level that is easiest to debug by interchanging cable, camera, or firewire adapter - some of which, I admit, are not so easy to interchange :-/. After an attempt to capture, you could run 'dmesg | tail' and see if there are any interesting messages related to firewire or ieee1394.
